Senior hands on every ticket
An agency staffs your project with a team and bills the whole stack. Here a certified senior does the work directly, so you pay for engineering, not for coordination.
Freelance lead Magento 2 developer · Adobe Commerce Expert certified · 20 years in e-commerce
I support, upgrade, secure and speed up Magento 2 stores for mid-market merchants, build their integrations and AI features, and, when moving is the right call, take them to Shopify. You talk directly to the person who writes and reviews every line. No project managers, no juniors, no hand-offs, and a fixed price for every phase.
Most Magento budgets do not go into code. They go into coordination: account managers, project managers, hand-offs between developers, and fixing junior work. I remove that layer.
An agency staffs your project with a team and bills the whole stack. Here a certified senior does the work directly, so you pay for engineering, not for coordination.
Every project is scoped, quoted and delivered for a fixed price per phase. Support runs on a flat monthly retainer. No surprise invoices at the end of the month.
Two decades of Magento internals, plus top AI coding models doing the routine parts under my supervision. I know where time goes in Magento projects and how to avoid it.
| Typical agency project | Working with me | |
|---|---|---|
| Who writes your code | A mixed team, often juniors | Me, or top AI models under my direct supervision. I review every line that ships |
| Communication | Account manager, then PM, then developer | Direct, usually same day |
| A small urgent change | Estimate, approval, next sprint, QA loop: often two weeks or more | Live the same day, often within the hour |
| When the store is down | A ticket in office hours, unless you pay for a premium SLA | By phone 16 hours a day, and back at work after hours if it cannot wait |
| Pricing | Hourly, for six to ten people | Fixed price per phase or flat retainer |
| Technical decisions | Days, via meetings | Usually the same day, in writing |
| Continuity | Team rotation | The same person, project after project |
| After go-live | Handed over to a support desk | Same developer, on a long-term retainer |
You spot something on your store that needs fixing today: a wrong label in the checkout, a shipping rule, a banner for tomorrow’s promotion. It looks like ten minutes of work.
Nobody can tell you when it will finally be live.
No sprint to wait for and nobody to pass the blame to. I own it from your message to production.
Bigger work, a serious bug, a new feature or an integration, gets the full process: a written scope and fixed quote, a branch on staging, tests, and a release planned with you. The difference is not fewer safeguards. It is that nothing waits in a queue for a sprint, and the person you write to is the person who fixes it.

Slow pages cost conversions and rankings. I measure first, then fix what matters: caching, indexers, database queries, third-party scripts, and where it pays off a Hyvä frontend in place of Luma, now free and open source.

One fixed price for everything a new shop needs. We agree the concept, I adapt a proven theme to your brand, register the domain and set up the server in your name, configure payments, shipping and taxes, and import your products. Then I connect Google Analytics and Search Console and launch your first Google Ads campaign with conversion tracking. Built on Mage-OS with the free Hyvä theme, or on Shopify if that suits your catalogue better. Usually live in one to two weeks.
The starting price covers up to 500 products from one spreadsheet. Domain, hosting and ad budget are paid by you, directly to the providers.

Start my store →Leaving Magento?
Before you sign a replatforming contract, get an independent, fixed-price comparison of staying and moving: three-year cost, feature gaps, migration risk and SEO. If moving is the right call, I migrate your products, customers, orders and URLs to Shopify, with every old address redirected. If staying wins, the audit becomes the plan.
Quick fix
Adobe publishes security patches for Magento 2 several times a year, and unpatched stores are how card skimmers get in. I apply the current security patches and PHP security updates on staging, run the checks, and release to production in a maintenance window you choose. Fixed price, usually done within two business days.
PHP2Shell, 21 October 2026: two critical PHP bugs hit every Magento store, and no Magento patch fixes them. One self-managed server patched, verified and confirmed in writing: flat €99. I start the moment I have SSH access, the patch itself takes under an hour, evenings and weekends included. What to do today →
Quick win
Customers add your store to their phone’s home screen and open it like an app, without an app store and without rebuilding your frontend. I add the app manifest, icons, an install prompt and a service worker that caches safely around cart, account and checkout, and optionally push notifications for back-in-stock, abandoned carts and promotions. A fraction of what a native app costs.
Re-platforming
Still on Magento 1? I move your catalogue, customers, orders and SEO to a current Magento 2 or Mage-OS install, rebuild what the old extensions did, and switch over with a tested cut-over plan and a rollback path. I worked with Magento 1 for years, including building the G2A.com marketplace, before moving to Magento 2 in 2019, and most recently moved alena-firany.pl, a retailer taking hundreds of orders a day, from Magento 1 to Magento 2 without stopping sales.

Plan the migration →You tell me what the store needs to do. I tell you honestly whether I am the right person for it.
For anything bigger than a bug fix I look at the codebase and infrastructure first, then send a written scope with a fixed price per phase.
Work ships to a staging environment every week. You see progress, click through it, and change course early if needed.
Launch with a checklist, documentation and a hand-over. Move to a retainer if you want ongoing care.
Merchants get burned twice: by agencies that rotate the team mid-project, and by one-off freelancers who vanish after go-live. I am a freelancer who stays, and neither happens here.
I have worked with Magento since 2008, spent five years each with my two longest employers, and still run a web platform I built in 2004. This is a career, not a gig between jobs.
After go-live you can keep me on a monthly retainer for years, not months: defined response times, the same developer who built the store, and a fair rate agreed up front.
Code, documentation, hosting and accounts stay in your name from day one. If you ever want to move on, the hand-over is a formality, not a negotiation.
A few of the problems I have solved. References and details are available on request.
Platforms I have built or developed include the G2A.com marketplace, alena-firany.pl, B2B for a large parts supplier on the US market, and B2B for a major Polish bicycle and motorcycle brand.
Migrated alena-firany.pl, a busy Polish curtain and drapery retailer, from Magento 1 to Magento 2: a catalogue of ready-made and by-the-metre products, customers, orders and SEO. The store kept trading throughout, taking hundreds of orders a day.
Developed the B2B e-commerce platform of a large parts supplier serving the US market. The client’s name and project details are confidential; a reference is available on request.
Consolidated the Magento stores of a major Polish bicycle and motorcycle brand into a single B2B platform with a headless Venia storefront. Integrated two ERP systems for products, prices, stock and orders, and connected Ergonode PIM and BaseLinker.
Five years, 2014 to 2019, building and developing the G2A.com digital marketplace on Magento 1 and leading the development team, with Node.js services, MongoDB, Solr and RabbitMQ around the commerce core.
Five years leading Magento 2 delivery as architect and hands-on technical lead across client projects: integrations, troubleshooting, performance work and mentoring the team.
I am Janusz Paśkiewicz, a lead Magento 2 developer and solution architect based in Rzeszów, Poland. I have built e-commerce since 2008 and worked with Magento since its first versions: Magento 1 until 2019, including the G2A.com digital marketplace, and Magento 2 since, as a developer, team leader and eCommerce CTO. I hold an MSc in Computer Engineering from Rzeszów University of Technology, earned in 2006, and the Adobe Commerce expert-level certification, earned in 2020. I have been part of the Toptal network since 2019.
I work in CET, which overlaps fully with UK and EU business hours, and I keep evening hours for North American clients, so US East Coast business hours are covered too. I work remotely with merchants in London and across the UK, in the Netherlands, Germany and the Nordics, and in North America. Your code, documentation and infrastructure always stay in your hands.
Usually by a wide margin, because you pay for one senior engineer instead of a team plus overhead. The point is not the lowest price, though. It is getting the work done right, by the person you are actually talking to, at a price agreed up front.
A good freelance Magento developer is usually faster and cheaper for the same quality, because nothing sits between you and the person writing the code. The usual worry is a freelancer who disappears after go-live, so I work the other way: long-term retainers, code and documentation in your accounts from day one, and emergencies covered by phone 16 hours a day. You get the directness of a freelancer with the reliability you would expect from an agency.
Yes, the UK is one of the markets I focus on. I work remotely from Poland in UK business hours, in English, with the same-day communication described above, and I invoice in GBP or EUR with no VAT for UK companies. Code, hosting and accounts stay in your name, so nothing depends on where I sit.
Yes, when the direction is still open: ongoing product development, work inside your own team and sprints, or consulting and code reviews. The rate is €65 per hour, in prepaid blocks of 20 hours, with a weekly report of the hours used. When the scope is clear, I recommend a fixed price or a retainer instead, so you know the cost up front.
Yes, deliberately. Top AI coding models write part of the routine code under my direct supervision, while I design the solution, review every line that ships and stay responsible for it. That is a large part of why one senior can deliver what used to take a team. Your code stays under NDA, and I use providers whose business terms exclude training on customer data. If your policy restricts AI tooling, we agree that up front.
I do the work myself and plan holidays around your releases, with weeks of notice. The code, documentation and infrastructure live in your accounts, never locked to me, so nothing stops while I am away. If your retainer needs guaranteed emergency cover, I can name a trusted senior Magento colleague in the contract who steps in only if I cannot.
All three. Adobe Commerce adds B2B and cloud features for a licence fee based on your revenue; Magento Open Source and Mage-OS, the community-run distribution, are free. If you pay for Adobe Commerce but use little of what it adds, a move to Mage-OS or Open Source can save the licence, and I can tell you in an audit whether it would. On the front end I work with Hyvä, PWA Studio / Venia and custom headless storefronts.
For most merchants, Hyvä: it is faster to build, cheaper to maintain and already very fast. Headless on PWA Studio / Venia makes sense when you need a fully decoupled React storefront, several channels on one backend, or an in-house front-end team. I have delivered both, so the recommendation follows your case, not what I prefer to build.
Yes. I have worked with Magento since 2008 and I am building a long-term practice, not filling a gap between jobs. Retainers can run for years. And because nothing is locked to me, you are protected either way.
Yes, that is a large part of my work. It starts with an audit of the code and infrastructure and a written plan with a fixed quote.
A simple services agreement with a fixed scope, and an NDA if you need one. I invoice from my Polish company with an EU VAT number: reverse charge for VAT-registered businesses in the EU, no VAT for clients outside the EU. Payment by bank transfer: SEPA in EUR, international wire in USD or GBP. Fixed-price projects are invoiced per phase, retainers monthly, and hourly work in prepaid blocks. US and Canadian clients get a W-8BEN, so there is no withholding to deal with.
Send a few lines about what you need. I reply within one business day with next steps or a straight answer if I am not the right fit.
