Leaving Magento for Shopify?
Get a second opinion, then a clean migration.

Replatforming is a large decision that is hard to undo. First you get an independent, written comparison of staying on Magento and moving to Shopify, with real numbers for your store. If moving wins, I migrate your data and URLs myself, because the hard part of leaving Magento is Magento.

Stay or go: the honest version

Both platforms are good. The right answer depends on your catalogue, your integrations, your team and what the store costs you today, not on which agency called you last.

Why merchants want to leave

High agency bills, a slow storefront, painful upgrades and developers who are hard to find. Many of these are real. Some are symptoms of how the store was built and hosted, not of Magento itself, and those can be fixed for less than a migration costs.

What changed recently

Staying is cheaper than it was. The Hyvä theme has been free and open source since November 2025, Mage-OS offers a community-run Magento without licence fees, and AI-assisted development has cut the cost of custom work. A fast, affordable Magento store is more realistic now than two years ago.

Where Shopify wins

Hosting, security and platform upgrades are handled for you, the app ecosystem is huge, and a small team can run the store without a developer on call. For D2C brands with a straightforward catalogue, moving is often the right call.

Where Magento still wins

Complex catalogues and configurable products, several stores and languages on one install, deep ERP integrations, B2B with customer-specific prices and approval flows, and full ownership of the code. Shopify Plus has B2B features too; whether they cover your price lists and processes is exactly what the comparison checks.

What you get

The second opinion

  • Current state review Code, extensions, hosting, performance, integrations and what the store really costs you each month.
  • Three-year cost of both paths Staying: hosting, support, upgrades and licences. Moving: Shopify plan, apps, transaction fees, the migration project and rebuilt integrations.
  • Feature gap list Every feature and integration you rely on, and how Shopify covers it: natively, through an app, with custom work, or not at all.
  • The stay-and-fix alternative What it would take to make your Magento store fast and affordable to run, costed, so you compare two real plans.
  • Migration risk and SEO URLs, redirects, data that does not map one to one, customer accounts, and the integrations that need rebuilding.
  • A written recommendation A short report and a 60-minute walkthrough with your team. You keep it, whatever you decide.

The migration, if moving wins

  • Data export and mapping Products, variants, attributes, images, categories to collections, customers, order history, reviews, CMS pages and blog posts, mapped to Shopify’s data model.
  • Trial migrations Full test runs into a Shopify development store, checked by your team, before anything goes live.
  • SEO parity A redirect for every product, category and content URL, meta data carried over, and Search Console watched after go-live.
  • Integrations ERP, PIM, marketplaces and fulfilment reconnected through apps or custom middleware, tested end to end.
  • Theme and apps A Shopify theme set up and configured with the apps you need. For a fully custom design I work alongside your designer or a Shopify theme specialist.
  • Cut-over and 30 days of care A final delta migration of new orders and customers, switch at a quiet hour, and fixes for anything the migration broke, free for 30 days.

How it works

  1. 30-minute call

Why you are considering a move, what the store does, and what success would look like.

  2. Second opinion

Read-only access, your current costs, about two weeks of analysis, then the written report and a walkthrough.

  3. Decision

Stay, and the report becomes a fixed-price plan to fix what hurts. Go, and you get a fixed quote for the migration.

  4. Migration and go-live

Trial runs on a development store, integrations, redirects, cut-over at a quiet hour, then 30 days of care.

What it costs

Both steps are fixed-price. The second opinion is useful on its own, and you are free to take it to any agency.

Questions about leaving Magento

Will you just tell me to stay on Magento?

No. You pay for the analysis, not for a conclusion, and I earn more from a migration than from a report. If Shopify fits your business better, the report says so and shows why. I take no referral fees from Shopify or any other platform.

What happens to our SEO?

Shopify uses its own URL structure for products and collections, so every old Magento URL gets a redirect to its new address. I build the redirect map from your full URL list, test it before go-live and watch Search Console afterwards. Meta titles, descriptions and structured data are carried over.

Can customers keep their passwords?

Shopify cannot import the password hashes Magento stores, so customers set a new password through an account activation email. I plan when that email goes out and how it reads, so it looks like your brand and not like phishing.

Do you build the Shopify theme?

I set up and configure a Shopify theme and the apps you need, which covers most stores. For a fully custom design I work alongside your designer or a Shopify theme specialist, and I stay responsible for the data, redirects and integrations.

What about Shopware, BigCommerce or Mage-OS?

The second opinion can compare any target you are considering. Shopify is the most common, and for stores paying for Adobe Commerce, moving to Mage-OS or Magento Open Source is sometimes the cheapest option of all.
